How Scanning Works
Scanning launches from the Hunt tab. Point your camera at tape or disc spines or covers and take up to 5 photos per scan. Rewind identifies the titles and runs them through all your active reviewers. Five built-in reviewers judge every title, and if you've built a custom reviewer, it joins as a sixth.
You can also add photos from your photo library or type titles in manually.
Scan Results
Each title gets a YES, MAYBE, or NO recommendation with reasoning. Titles already in your collection are marked OWNED. Titles on your want list are marked WANTED. If the title couldn't be read clearly, it's marked UNCLEAR.
If the app is backgrounded during a scan, it continues processing in the background and notifies you when results are ready.
Collection & Want List
Add titles to your collection or want list from scan results, recommendations, or by searching the title database. Your collection works offline, stored on your device. Sign in and it syncs across your devices too.
Custom Reviewers
Build a custom reviewer from the Hunt tab. Pick movies you love, set exclusions, add favorite directors, and Rewind generates a reviewer with its own name and voice. Building one is free; activating it on scans and weekly picks is part of Special Edition.
Troubleshooting
If a scan fails or times out, try again. The app will automatically retry background scans. For best results, make sure tape or disc spines are well-lit and readable in your photos.
If the app can't access your camera, check Settings > Rewind > Camera on your device.
To clear your scan history or collection data, open Settings from the gear icon on the Home tab and use the data management options there.
